THOMAS BÖHMER, Dipl.-Ing., Dipl.-Biochem., Dr. rer. nat.,
studied biochemistry at the University of Bochum. For both his diploma and
doctoral theses he was a visiting student at the Rockefeller University in
New York. Subsequently, he worked as a post-doctoral associate in the
Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
His research focused on the nuclear pore complex, the largest molecular
machine of the eukaryotic cell and exclusive gateway for transport between
nucleus and cytoplasm. His fields of expertise are biochemistry, cell
biology, molecular biology, structural biology, as well as biophysics and
