KLAUS DIETER LANGFINGER, Dr.,
(German Patent Attorney, Eurpean Patent and Trade Mark Attorney) studied
Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe and wrote his doctoral thesis in
1984 at the Max-Planck Institute for Radiation Chemistry in Mühlheim, Ruhr.
From 1985 to 2007, Dr Langfinger worked at the Global Intellectual Property
competence centre of BASF SE which employs 250 staff across the globe.
Between 2001 and 2007, he was Chief Patent Counsel for BASF Group. In the
period between 2003 and 2007, he chaired expert committees for protection of
industrial property for several German industrial associations and for the
European industrial association BusinessEurope. Dr Langfinger is member of
the Presiding Committee of VPP, Chairman of the German arm of LES and member
of the Advisory Council of the Inter-disciplinary Centre for Intellectual
Property at the University of Mannheim. He also teaches patent law and
patent exploitation at the University of Freiburg. In 2006, he became one of
the first members of the IP Hall of Fame. Dr Langfinger's core professional
focus is on the establishment and management of patent portfolios, the
compilation and implementation of national and global patent strategies,
consultation in questions of technology transfer (including the compilation
and negotiation of corresponding contracts), consultation in points of
employee inventor rights and IP due diligence within the framework of M&A
projects.
