CHRISTOPH SCHMÖKEL studied law at the
Free University of Berlin and at the Philipps University of Marburg. After
working for almost 3 years in the legal department of BASF AG, he moved to
the then Polygram GmbH (today Universal Music) where he held executive
positions in succession in the firms Phonogram, Polydor International and
Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. In 1998, he left Deutsche Grammophon
Gesellschaft as Executive Vice President and Deputy Managing Director in
order to devote himself completely to the legal profession. His practice in
the area of copyright and labour law is focused on the field of performance,
production and exploitation of classical music where he counsels and
represents artists, agencies, organizers and producers of phonograms at an
international level. He also has significant experience in the area of stage
